Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy partners with UNIGE to drive biodiversity awareness among Swiss youth

Grant for Scienscope to offer new cross-disciplinary educational workshops to students of all ages.

Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy has signed a new grant agreement with Scienscope, the scientific mediation center of the Faculty of Sciences at UNIGE (University of Geneva) to offer new cross-disciplinary educational workshops to students of all ages (7-19 years-old) starting this 2025.

Founded in 2015, Scienscope offers science-based workshops & resources for teachers and students of all ages covering fields such as biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, pharmacy, physics, geology and environmental science. This unique cross-disciplinary approach is key to understanding biodiversity, which typically spans multiple scientific fields.

Through this partnership, Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy aims to inspire Swiss youth to develop a passion for the environment, nurturing future biodiversity scientists and advocates of tomorrow. This will also be an opportunity for Scienscope to create synergies with Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy’s educational program Sow My Dream. This year alone, the objective is to engage 50 classes, and reach some 1,000 students, with workshops on the theme “From Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean”. Activities will include observing migratory birds, creating eco-maps, conducting educational water analysis, and visiting exhibitions.

“I’m delighted to support this new educational programme in partnership with Scienscope and UNIGE, which fosters awareness of how science can help address the environmental challenges we face. Together, we can nurture the next generation of biodiversity champions.” says Dona Bertarelli, Executive Chair of Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy.

“We are delighted to welcome Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy as our new partner. We look forward to expanding and enriching our educational activities by combining our structure, local network, and methodologies with the foundation’s resources and expertise in biodiversity.” says Michel Gauthier-Clerc, Director of Scienscope.
