ENVISIONING GLOBAL OCEAN CONSERVATION GOALS BEYOND 2030

Ocean Climate Platform

The Ocean & Climate Platform (OCP) is an international network bringing together more than 100 organisations from civil society (non-governmental organisations, research institutes, foundations, local authorities, international organisations and private sector entities). Created in the run-up to COP21 in Paris, the OCP aims to promote scientific expertise on the major role played by the ocean and its ecosystems in the climate system, and to advocate for better consideration of these interactions by national and international decision-makers. Building on the wide-ranging expertise of its members, the OCP brings light to concrete solutions to protect the ocean, biodiversity and the climate.

AN OCEAN OF POSSIBILITIES

2025

Challenge

Despite global commitments like 30×30, progress toward SDG14 remains underfunded and fragmented. Critical gaps persist in a unified vision for post-2030 ocean sustainability, leaving marine ecosystems increasingly vulnerable to climate change, pollution, and unsustainable exploitation. Without coordinated, forward-looking strategies, our ocean’s long-term health is at risk.

Action

Collecting the diversity of ocean voices to craft an impactful and actionable vision for post-2030 SDG14 via surveys, expert interviews, and scenario development across priority themes—blue foods, ocean-climate, pollution, and high seas—ensuring the vision reflects both civil society perspectives and multilateral commitments for a post-2030 ocean agenda.
